5 acts not to miss on Friday

Weekender 2018

WAE 2018 is all about showcasing live music with an electronic soul. We’ve highlighted five artists across the musical spectrum that you should definitely catch on the Friday of our epic Weekender in Velder Woods.

Stage: Crash

Electronic producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Alex Crossan, has taken his music from the bedroom to the Grammy Awards. Born in Guernsey, a small British island off the coast of France, Crossan grew up an ocean away from London nightlife. With his self-titled album, ‘Mura Masa,’ you can sense a blend of that island vibe mixed in with his diverse range of musical tastes, ranging from post-dubstep to pop, hip-hop and electro-soul. We can’t wait to groove along to all the hits when he takes the stage in Velder Woods.

Stage: Crash

Modeselektor’s inarguable grooves seem to emanate from every conceivable musical genre, creating a controlled chaos whose sonic expression elevates the eyebrows and heartbeats of critics and dance floors around the world. Thrust upon the unique cultural landscape of the liberated city after the fall of the Berlin wall, the two former East Berliners found themselves in the ultimate urban jungle, deep in the realm of the absurd. They channeled this energy into their productions, creating dense, textured and rich sonic beats. Get ready for a no holds barred set that will take you on a primal journey of epic proportions.

Stage: Pulse

A child of the garage generation, Birmingham-born artist, Hannah Wants, has validated herself as a world renowned DJ with some serious credentials. In 2014, she was crowned both DJ Mag and Mixmag’s ‘Best Breakthrough DJ.’ Hannah has showed no signs of slowing down, with her headlining party series, ‘What Hannah Wants’ touring festivals, warehouse and clubs around the world. Hannah Wants will be pulling out all the stops for her WAE set at the Pulse stage. The bass-influenced house music artist recently released her single, ‘Bamboozle,’ in tandem with the announcement of her new label, Etiquette Records. We look forward to watching Hannah grow as an artist, label manager, and boundary-pusher in the electronic music community.

As the owner and figurehead for Ram Records, Andy’s nurtured and developed huge drum’n’bass artists, turning it into one of the world’s most respected independent labels in the world. A reputation as one of the most significant British artists in global dance music has been hard earned. Hunting, searching and signing: Andy C is constantly immersed in new music. Stage: Kick

Hailing from North Holland, the Shelter Amsterdam resident and LET Light Radio show host, Mirella Kroes, favors the contemporary, deeper side of techno that is both enticing to the brain and captivating to the soul. Mirella started buying records with her older brother, who taught her how to mix at the age of 19. Tough, loop-oriented techno was the soundtrack to the local rave scene that fostered the start of her career. Mirella’s sets have evolved into a combination of hypnotic and transcendental music, with the occasional old school dance floor driver in-between. Mirella will be taking the xx stage into a techno deep dive on Friday, and we will definitely be there.
